How meanings are handled
Name meanings are not invented to fill a page. When an etymology is widely accepted, the curated record explains the linguistic root. When a name has several genuine origins, each origin is distinguished. When a modern interpretation is disputed, character-dependent, or uncertain, the page says so.
The reference tier deliberately separates evidence of name usage from evidence of meaning. A spelling can therefore have a detailed, useful page while its meaning and pronunciation remain visibly unverified. For Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and other character-based traditions, the exact written characters can determine meaning; no single meaning is asserted when the source does not establish those characters.
